About Rift Valley

I am not a writer, but I do write stuff for different reasons and when I do, I’ll post it here. I hope that my perspective as a physician assistant, anthropologist, political activist, atheist, and mom who has a potentially life threatening, incurable disease and loves to sing will attract readers and comments. Most of my writing is about health but my interests are pretty eclectic. Maybe some cross-pollination will happen here as people with some of these different interests start reading and commenting.

The blog name comes from the fact that I live in a rift valley of the Hayward Fault on the east side of the San Francisco Bay.

Most of the political work I do is as part of the People’s Health Movement and I’ll be writing about it here. PHM is a worldwide network of activist health workers, academics, NGOs, and people affected by health problems. The People’s Charter for Health expresses the founding principles of the movement. To get an idea of the PHM perspective, I also recommend reading Global Health Watch – “a call to all health workers to broaden and strengthen the global community of health advocates who are taking action on global ill-health and inequalities, and their underlying political and economic” causes.

Finally, the writing here is to encourage YOU to take action.
